we need volunteers to further the mission. To start, Helping Hand needs ten volunteers to assist with the youth soccer camp annual fundraiser. Volunteers will be utilized to welcome athletes and answer any questions parents have prior to dropping their children off. Other volunteers will be used as camp counselors, lunch preparers and servers, as well as runners that ensure there is water and other items the head coach needs. These ten or so volunteers are indispensable, as they’ll allow the Helping Hand board the opportunity to meet with potential sponsors and donors

Intern Recruitment

We have established specific intern position. Helping Hand needs interns to serve the organization as a writer/blogger, marketing intern, media intern, and research assistant intern.

We need a writer/blogger who can help promote the organization and bring their mission to the media. The writer/blogger will be responsible for running a newsletter that will highlight current topics within the organization to engage readers. The writer/blogger needs to have excellent writing ability given the job requirements. Experience in a writing position and/or marketing is desired for this position.

We need a marketing intern that can engage and involve the public into the organization’s mission. The marketing intern will engage in extensive research and be required to build relationships and partnerships throughout different universities. The marketing intern must be a current or recently graduated college student to ensure they can make the necessary connections. They must be a creative and outgoing individual that has the writing and speaking skills to enable them to promote the organization and to create partners.

We need a media intern to help create a media or press kit for the organization. This media or press kit will need to be created with the audience in mind and the intern will have to have a creative mind to attract the readers. The intern will be provided with the necessary tools and information to create this kit. The media intern will need to have writing experience and familiarity in marketing or advertising to be successful.

Finally, Helping Hand needs a research assistant intern to help the research efforts of the organization. The intern will be expected to be able to utilize the internet to obtain the data that is needed. The intern will be expected to analyze and interpret the data to gain the best results. The intern must be a current university student or recent graduate with excellent research skills. They must have good speaking and writing skills. The intern will also have to understand current media platforms.

Social Media/Webmaster Intern Job Description

Helping Hands is seeking a social media-savvy individual with excellent writing skills. The Social Media/Webmaster will deliver friendly and engaging content on Facebook, create SEO-optimized copy for the organization’s website and assist with management of the website. This individual will be expected to develop a continuous dialogue with volunteers, interns, board members and interested donors, as well as stimulate conversation about our organization.
Days and hours are flexible, but ideal candidate would work 6 to 15 hours per week; schedule is negotiable. Minimum of one full semester commitment requested. Opportunities exist for longer duration with corresponding opportunities for growth. Position is unpaid.

Job Scope
  • Responsible for 3 posts per week to Facebook
  • Maintaining up-to-date website
  • Create stylish, engaging content for multiple social channels
  • Write SEO-friendly content for recruiting volunteers and donors
  • Become an organization advocate in social media spaces, engaging in dialogues and answering questions where appropriate
  • Identify events and other opportunities to spotlight on social media
  • Regularly provide feedback on insights gained from social media monitoring (Facebook Insights, etc.)
  • Continuously monitor social media trends and tools for changes that affect our competitive landscape
  • Use alerts, search and other tools to monitor for mentions
Preferred Skills
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of social media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, etc.)
  • Minimum of 1-2 years’ experience writing/managing a company blog and managing social media channels for a brand
  • Pursuing a degree in Communications, English, Journalism or Marketing
  • Strong, proven passion for educating Liberia’s youth and the mission of the organization
  • Solid understanding of basic HTML
  • Experience writing SEO-friendly website content

Volunteer Coordinator Intern Position

Intern will assist the Executive Director with planning and coordinating volunteer assignments and internship opportunities. This includes scheduling volunteers, scheduling internship interviews, planning and assisting with special projects, assisting in managing a small volunteer staff, along with creating and maintaining a volunteer database.

Days and hours are flexible, but ideal candidate would work 6 to 15 hours per week; schedule is negotiable. Minimum of one full semester commitment requested. Opportunities exist for longer duration with corresponding opportunities for growth. Position is unpaid.

Duties Include
  • Creating a volunteer database
  • Processing volunteer and internship applications
  • Updating volunteer profiles and keeping them up-to-date and accurate
  • Assisting with organization of regular volunteer trainings & orientations
  • Supervising volunteers
  • Assisting with planning the annual Youth Soccer Camp
  • Corresponding with volunteers and prospective volunteers, mainly through email but occasionally via phone or text messaging.
  • Assist with scheduling volunteers utilizing a variety of methods, including online sign-up sheets
  • Assist with creating content for weekly Facebook posts
  • A variety of other regular clerical & organizational tasks that are integral to the success of a volunteer management program

Grant Writing Intern

The Grant Writing Intern will assist the Executive Director and the Grant Manager. This includes researching grant opportunities, writing grant proposals and reports, and gathering and analyzing data and organizational outcomes. Make a difference by helping to secure public and private grants, which provide financial support for Helping Hand, enabling our organization to continue to serve students.

Days and hours are flexible, but ideal candidate would work 6 to 15 hours per week; schedule is negotiable. Minimum of one full semester commitment requested. Opportunities exist for longer duration with corresponding opportunities for growth. Position is unpaid.

Duties include
  • Research grant opportunities, including funder priorities, recently funded proposals, requirements, and deadlines
  • Gather and analyze data on community demographics and service trends
  • Communicate with program staff to get updates on client services and outcomes
  • Assist in writing corporate, foundation, letters of inquiry, and government proposals and reports
